Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At the age of 27, he was enrolled in the National Theatre School of Denmark where he was graduated in the year 1995. He also appeared in The Killing, a drama series which was broadcast across the world. He was later featured in Borgen III and Those Who Kill Two internationally well-known Danish drama series. He also had a leading part in an episode of the BBC drama Sherlock as the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. He played the role of the Russian president in the American television show House of Cards. He was awarded an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his performance in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje, which was broadcast in the UK in 2019 under the name Ride in the Storm.In addition to his mother tongue Danish, Mikkelsen speaks fluent Swedish, German and English and has learned several accents. He has stated that he and his brother first learned English by listening and studying the Monty Python songs.
