Silk was born in Fredericton (New Brunswick), Canada. Ilkay Silk is the daughter Peter Silk, an academic as well as Anna Silk who is an actress, director, producer, playwright. Anna is awed by her mother's job in the theatre and going to rehearsals. Silk had a number of commercials in which she appeared at a young age. Silk graduated from St. Thomas University with an Associate of Arts degree in 1997. Theatre St. Thomas has produced two plays in the initial years: Seven Menusand The Kitchen. Silk started her career in acting by moving to Toronto, Canada, at the end of November in 1999. She then moved into Los Angeles for the remainder of that decade. She met her future spouse, Seth Cooperman, at an acting training held in Los Angeles, in 2007. The couple was wed in a civil ceremony in December of 2009. The couple reaffirmed their vows April 10, 2011 at Fredericton at a Jewish ceremony after becoming an observant Jew.
